January 21st, 2021 Council Meeting Highlights

Council discussed the following issues at their January 21st, 2021 regular meeting.

BYLAW 578 – REPEAL 531 AND 567 BYLAW

Council gave second and third reading to Bylaw 578.  The bylaw repeals the Election Bylaw #531 and its amending bylaw #567.  The bylaws were determined to be out-of-date and unnecessary.

2021 ELECTION – APPOINTMENT OF RETURNING AND SUBSTITUTE RETURNING OFFICERS

Jim Fedyk was appointed as returning officer for the 2021 municipal election and Betty Lien as the substitute returning officer.

MARVIN’S AUTO AND GLASS LTD – REQUEST FOR REVERSAL OF TAX PENALTY

Council directed administration to notify the complainant that Bylaw 541 stipulates that tax penalties be imposed automatically should monthly payments be in default.

SEDGEWICK LIBRARY BOARD – 2021 BUDGET

Council approved the 2021 library budget with total expenses of $35,590.

RECREATION BOARD – GRASS CUTTING

Council deferred the issue to the next meeting to allow time to determine an appropriate amount for a grant to be provided to the Recreation Board in exchange for grass cutting services and to include town equipment being turned over to the Recreation Board between May through September and returned in good condition.

50TH STREET – PAVEMENT REPAIR

Council directed administration to repair a dip in the pavement at the intersection of 50th Street and Dufferin Avenue in 2021.

ARENA – PROTECTIVE NETTING

Council directed administration to add protective netting along the north, east and west walls of the ice surface to the arena roof replacement tender package.
