January 18th, 2018 Council Meeting Highlights

Council discussed the following issues at their regular Council meeting held on January 18th, 2018.

Land Use Bylaw Application #17-01

Council gave second and third reading to Bylaw No. 534 – An Amendment to Land Use Bylaw #461.  The bylaw rezones Plan 8221051, Block 31, Lot 5 from “I” Industrial District to “C1” Commercial Central District.

Application for Development Permit #2017-13

Council approved Development Permit #2017-13 for SW09-444-12W4 without further conditions.  The application was to construct an ancillary building on the property that is zoned as “DC” Direct Control District.  All uses within DC Districts are subject to approval by Council upon a review of the merits of the proposal and Council may refer to other sections of the Land Use Bylaw to determine requirements.  A permit does not come into effect until 14 days after the date the approval is posted.

2018 Strategic Plan

Council approved the 2018 Strategic Plan.  The plan names six priorities which include underground infrastructure replacement, main street revitalization and Phase I of a new subdivision.  The plan can be found at https://sedgewick.ca/government/strategic-objectives/

Recreation Centre Naming Rights RFP

Council approved issuing a Request for Proposal to solicit bids for the naming rights of the Rec Centre.

Boulevard Bylaw

Council gave first reading to Bylaw No. 537/18, the Town of Sedgewick Boulevard Bylaw.  The bylaw outlines maintenance responsibilities of Town boulevards with an emphasis on the issue of boulevard trees.

Appointment of Fire Chief

Council appointed Tyson Armitage as the new Fire Chief for the Town of Sedgewick.

Flagstaff Intermunicipal Partnership – 2018 Budget

Council approved the 2018 budget for the Flagstaff Intermunicipal Partnership which includes a requisition from the Town of Sedgewick for $7,581.76.
